2014 Lincoln MKT
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2014 Lincoln MKT Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Waverly Heights, on a quiet street off one of those long winding roads, a night shift pharmacist flagged me down -- well, called me, but she was standing at the curb waiting when I pulled up. She'd already done her homework.

She told me she'd looked up my BSIS license number before dialing. Her last locksmith left no company name on the receipt and the phone number went dead inside a week. She wasn't going through that again.

She needed a spare fob for her 2014 Lincoln MKT. She still had her working key, so this was a standard add-a-key job, not an all-keys-lost situation. That distinction matters because it affects how long the job takes and what the security system has to do during programming.

I pulled out my diagnostic equipment, connected at the OBD port, and walked through the key registration sequence. The MKT's security system requires professional tools to add a smart key -- there's no DIY button sequence on this platform. I programmed the new fob, cut the emergency blade to match her door lock, and tested every button and the door handle touch response before I put anything away.

She asked how the dealer quote compared. I told her to think of it as a significant difference and leave it at that. She laughed. Said she'd already assumed that when she decided to call a mobile locksmith instead of getting a tow.

The whole job was done before her neighbor finished walking a dog around the block.
