2016 Lincoln MKT Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Wildwood, Thousand Oaks, I got a call from a woman who had already paid someone else to replace the smart key on her 2016 Lincoln MKT. The car would start, run for a couple of seconds, and then kill itself. The first locksmith told her the immobilizer module was bad and walked away from the job.

When I got there, she still had the fob the other guy had given her. The blade was cut, the fob looked right. But the security system had never accepted the key into permanent memory. I cleared the incomplete key data through the OBD port with my IM608, ran the security access sequence properly with the full timed cycle, and let the registration write all the way through. Then I confirmed the theft indicator light proved out the way it should before I handed anything back.
She watched the whole thing. When the car idled clean and stayed running, she was quiet for a second. Then she asked why the first guy hadn't just done that.
I didn't have a great answer. Some people rush. The MKT's system is not forgiving of that.
The dealer had been her backup plan. She had already called them and gotten a quote that made her go pale. What she paid me was a fraction of that, and the job was finished on the spot in her driveway.
