Over in the Lynn Ranch neighborhood in Thousand Oaks, a woman flagged me down at a church parking lot. She wasn't calm about it, and I understood why once she explained.
Another locksmith had already come out for her 2016 Lincoln MKT. Charged her full price for a new smart key. The module was fine. He just hadn't finished the security access sequence. Lincoln's system needs a timed handshake through the OBD-II port before it writes a new key ID to permanent memory. Rush it or skip the confirmation step, and the transponder data sits in temporary RAM. Looks good for a moment, then vanishes.
I pulled my FO38 Lishi, verified his blade cut was accurate, then connected my IM608 through OBD. Cleared the failed key data from the BCM, ran a clean PATS learn with the full security timer, and watched the theft light prove out correctly on startup. Her M3N-5WY8609 fob started the car clean.
I showed her the confirmation screen on my tool so she could see it was written for real. She just stared at the dash for a second like she didn't trust it yet. I get that. She'd already been through it once the wrong way.
Whole thing took me about twenty minutes because half the work was already done. She paid a fraction of what the first guy charged, and way less than the dealer would have quoted.
