Got a call from a guy near Ventura Pier with a 2006 E350. Zero working keys. His last one had been sitting in a junk drawer with a dead CR2025 for months after he bought the car used, and when he finally went to use it, nothing. No IR signal, no start, doors locked.

He had already called the dealer. They told him to tow it in, order a new key from Germany, and wait. He said the word "weeks" like it physically hurt him.

I pulled up, popped the EIS cover, and connected to read the module. NEC-based board, A2115451508. That is the one I want to see because the read and calculate process is reliable on site. Pulled the key data, generated the working password, and programmed a fresh SmartKey into an open slot. Cut the HU64 blade on my mobile unit right on the sidewalk while a couple of tourists watched like it was a street performance.

Full test after: IR lock and unlock, trunk, panic, ignition start and run cycle, steering lock release. Everything came back clean. The whole job took about an hour.

He just stood there holding the new key, turning it over in his hand. Then he asked if the old dead one could be reprogrammed too. It could. So I did both.

Way less than the dealer quoted, and he never had to tow anything anywhere.
