2005 Mercedes-Benz SLK Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Olivas Adobe, a guy with a 2005 SLK 350 called me on a Thursday afternoon. He had one key left and it was acting up. Remote wouldn't lock or unlock from more than two feet away, and twice that week the car sat there cranking with "Key not recognized" on the dash before finally catching on the third try.

He had already called the Mercedes dealer in the area. They told him the key had to be factory-ordered from Germany, the EIS module might need to be replaced, and the whole thing could take two to three weeks once parts arrived. He hung up and found me.

I got to his driveway, popped the key open on the hood of the SLK, and the CR2025 was original. Ten years old. The battery contacts inside the 5WK47283 housing had some corrosion too, just a light green film but enough to mess with the IR signal strength to the N73 EIS module.

Fresh CR2025, cleaned the contacts, reassembled. Then I connected to the OBD port and ran diagnostics on the EIS to confirm the key was reading solid. Tested all four buttons, cycled the ignition five times, checked the immobilizer response each time.

His one remaining key was fine. The EIS was fine. He didn't need a new key ordered from Stuttgart, didn't need a module swap. He needed a battery and a cleaning, done in his driveway in Ventura, for a fraction of what they were quoting for parts alone.
