Got a Saturday afternoon call from someone down in Pierpont neighborhood in Ventura. Their 2014 SLK was sitting in the driveway, one key to its name, and the chrome housing on that key had a crack running right along the hinge seam. The blade still flipped out, but it wobbled. He said he had been nursing it for a month.
He told me the dealer quoted him a week-and-a-half wait just for the part to arrive, then another appointment to cut and program. Two trips minimum. He drives the car daily.
I got there in about twenty minutes. Pulled the EIS data through the OBD port, confirmed FBS3 protocol, and matched a fresh IYZ-3312 blank with the correct 5WK47283 transponder board. Cut the HU64 blade on the van, programmed the key to the EIS, and synced the four-button remote. Took right around 35 minutes total.
The part he watched closest was the test. Turn the key, dash lights cycle, engine fires. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic. All four buttons from 30 feet away. Then we walked up close and tested again with the CR2025 half-pulled to check emergency blade start. That one matters when you only carry one key.
He held both keys side by side and just sort of weighed them in his hands, like he was making sure the new one was real. It was.
Whole thing done on site, on a Saturday, for a fraction of what the dealer route would have cost him in time alone.
