Got a call from a guy out near the Rice Avenue corridor in Oxnard. His 2012 SLK350 had one working key left, and the chrome side on the fob case was cracked from a drop on concrete. The emergency blade still turned the door and the EIS recognized the transponder, but two of the four buttons were dead. Lock and panic did nothing. Trunk and unlock still worked.
I got there in about twenty minutes. Popped the fob open on his trunk lid and the issue was obvious. The NEC chip board had a hairline crack running right under the lock button trace. That drop didn't just break the shell. It fractured the board.
New remote head key, cut the HU64 blade to his door cylinder using the Lishi, programmed the transponder through OBD to the EIS using password calculation off the NEC dump, then synced all four remote buttons. Tested lock, unlock, trunk, panic. Walked both doors. Checked that the key started the car cold.
He told me the dealer quoted him a wait of almost two weeks for the part alone, plus a tow to the shop. He had the car running in his driveway in under forty minutes.
He asked if I could erase the cracked key so nobody could use it. I cleared it from the EIS right there. One less thing to worry about.
