Got a call from a guy near the Ventura Performing Arts Center. His 2006 SLK was sitting in a lot, and he had zero working keys. Said the last one had been acting up for a month, then just stopped turning the ignition altogether.
He had already called the dealer. They told him they would need to order a new key pre-coded from Germany, matched to his VIN, and it would be a couple of weeks minimum before the part even showed up. Then another appointment to program it to his EIS module. He did not love that timeline.
I pulled up, ran the VIN, confirmed the R171 with the NEC-based EIS. All-keys-lost on these means working through the EIS/EZS to extract the key data and generate a new working transponder profile. Cut the HU64 blade on the van, programmed the NEC chip to his module, synced all four remote buttons on the IYZ-3312 fob. Tested the lock, unlock, trunk, and panic. Then started the engine.
He sat in the driver's seat and just held the key for a second. That pause people do when they have been without a working key for a while and the car finally fires up again.
Whole thing took me about 40 minutes. He was driving home before the dealer would have even returned his voicemail.
