Got a call from a guy at his office garage near Steckel Park in Santa Paula. His 2016 Cayenne smart key had cracked right at the nose when he dropped it stepping out that morning. Proximity detection was cutting in and out, and the emergency blade was rattling loose inside the broken housing.
He called the dealer first. Earliest opening was the following Wednesday. That meant days without a reliable key, or a flatbed tow and time he did not have.
I drove out during his lunch hour. Parked next to the Cayenne, plugged my IM608 into the OBD port, and pulled up the KESSY module diagnostics. The 5-button fob, 7PP-959-753-BQ, was still pairing to the car but the cracked case was letting the board flex just enough to drop signal. I transferred the electronics into a new OEM-spec housing, reseated the CR2032, and confirmed the transponder handshake through OBD.
Then the walk-around. Keyless-Go on every door handle. Push-to-start from the driver seat. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and the rear hatch button. All five buttons, both sides of the car, twice.
He came back from grabbing lunch, tested the key himself, and went back upstairs. His car never left the garage. The whole thing took less time than the dealer would have spent just writing up the appointment.
