2018 Porsche Cayenne
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to my location in Limoneira or Santa Paula?

Usually within 30 minutes of your call, depending on where I'm coming from when you reach me. I'm mobile, so the tools and Porsche-capable key cutting equipment are already loaded. No waiting on a bay, no tow required, no key shipping from another country. You drop your GPS pin and I come to the car.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made today, same day?

Yes. That's the main reason people call instead of going to the dealer. Porsche dealers order key blanks by VIN, and that blank ships from overseas. Forum threads from Cayenne owners are full of wait-time complaints ranging from one week on the short end to several weeks when supply is tight. One day is not a realistic dealer timeline for this vehicle. I stock blanks for these and have the cutting equipment with me.

Q: My 2018 Cayenne door lock is stiff and the key feels like it's binding. Is the key worn or is it the cylinder?

Both are worth checking. Porsche lock cylinders on this generation are precision-made and don't tolerate a worn key the way a simpler lock might. A key that's been used daily for several years can round off the cuts just enough to drag in the cylinder, which people mistake for a stiff lock. The test is simple: if a freshly cut key to the correct code turns cleanly and the old one still binds, the key is the problem.

Q: I only have one key for my Cayenne. Should I get a spare cut before I lose it?

Yes, and do it now while you still have the original. A working key makes the job faster and cheaper because I can decode the cut directly from it rather than going through the lock cylinder. Once it's lost, the job still gets done, but it takes longer. One key on a Porsche is a real exposure, especially if you're out at a rural property like Limoneira where a tow is a bigger ordeal than it would be in town.

2018 Porsche Cayenne Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Limoneira, the lemon groves run right up to the edge of the working ranches, and cell signal is good enough to text a GPS pin. That's all I needed.

A property manager who works the Limoneira estate called about a 2018 Porsche Cayenne with a lost key. No spare. The car was parked on a packed-dirt access road between two grove sections and wasn't going anywhere.

I loaded what I needed for a Porsche mechanical key job and drove out to Santa Paula. The car was exactly where the pin said it would be, sitting in late-afternoon shade with the grove rows behind it.

I decoded the lock, pulled the key code, and cut a replacement blade on site. Fit the door lock first, then the ignition. Both turned clean on the first try. He had a working key in hand before the light dropped below the tree line.

He mentioned he'd called the Porsche dealer earlier in the day. They told him to arrange a tow and quoted him a wait on the key arriving. I was already done. He saved a good chunk just on the tow alone, before you even count the key itself.

How long does a 2018 Porsche Cayenne key replacement take?▼

For a mechanical key on this generation Cayenne, the job itself is pretty quick once I'm at the car. Decoding the lock, pulling the key code, and cutting the blade runs about 20 to 40 minutes on site. There's no programming clock to wait out, no module work. The time variable is mostly access, meaning whether the lock cylinder is easy to reach and whether I'm decoding on-site or already have the code.
