A logistics coordinator at a warehouse on the Westside neighborhood in Ventura called me mid-morning. His 2017 Promaster was parked at the loading dock and the fob had gone through a puddle while he was hooking up a trailer. The EVIC was showing "NO FOBS DETECTED" and the push-to-start was dead.
He was managing inbound shipments all day. No way to leave. No way to get a tow in during receiving hours. The dealer wanted him to book days out and arrange transport.
I drove to the lot during his break. Plugged my programmer into the OBD port under the dash, ran the key diagnostic through the secure gateway, and confirmed the old fob was still registered but the board was waterlogged. The RF hub on the body control module side was fine, just the fob itself.
I added a new RX2TRF198 remote, programmed the transponder to his VIN through the Stellantis secure gateway protocol, and tested all three buttons plus push-to-start. Lock, unlock, panic, ignition. Everything talking.
He walked back to the dock with a working key in his pocket. The Promaster never left the lot and he didn't lose a minute of his shift. The whole thing took less time than his break.
Dealer route would have meant days without the van. This was done before his next truck pulled in.
