An HOA president in the Midtown neighborhood in Ventura called because his 2018 Ram Promaster was stuck behind a gated complex and the dealer told him to figure out the tow logistics first. The tow truck couldn't get past the gate without a resident escort, and nobody was around to help. He'd already burned half his morning on the phone.
I drove through the gate with him riding shotgun in my van. His Promaster was sitting in a back corner of the lot, dead quiet.
I pulled the security PIN from the WIN module through the OBD port using my programmer, no need to pull dash panels or touch the BCM. The Promaster runs a Megamos 48 transponder chip inside its Fobik-style remote, FCC ID RX2TRF198, and the immobilizer protocol on these is Fiat-derived, not the same as the domestic Ram trucks. Different software routine, different token process. Once I had the PIN, I generated the crypto data onto a fresh chip, cut the blade to match the Y170 keyway, and seated a new CR2032 in the housing.
Programmed all three buttons. Tested lock, unlock, panic. Started the engine twice to make sure the immobilizer handshake was solid.
His truck never left that parking spot. The whole thing took about 35 minutes. He just stood there watching, arms crossed, like he was waiting for a catch. There wasn't one.
