2021 Ram Promaster
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to me in El Rio or the Oxnard area?

I give you an honest window on the phone - no fake guarantees. Because I'm already mobile and working the area, I can usually get to you faster than arranging a tow to a dealer. One ProMaster owner on a forum waited over two hours just for roadside assistance to show up, and that was before any actual key work happened. I skip all of that and come directly to you.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made the same day I call?

In most cases, yes. I carry blanks, cutting equipment, and programming tools for Ram vans in my service vehicle. If I have your key in stock and the schedule lines up, I can be at your location in Oxnard and have a new remote cut, programmed, and tested the same day. Ram dealers sometimes can't match that turnaround because the fob may need to be ordered.

Q: My ProMaster fob still turns the ignition but the remote lock and unlock stopped working. Do I need a new fob?

Not necessarily. On these vans, the ignition function and the remote entry function are two separate things from the vehicle's perspective. If the van starts fine but the lock and unlock buttons don't respond, start with the CR2032 battery - low voltage kills remote range well before it affects anything else. If a fresh battery doesn't fix it, the issue could be the fob itself, the receiver on the van, or a wiring problem.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2021 ProMaster. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2021 ProMaster does not have an owner-accessible programming sequence. Enrolling a new fob requires a professional diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port. The factory part number on the fob matches, but matching part numbers doesn't mean the fob arrives pre-paired - it still needs to be programmed to your specific van's immobilizer. If you already bought the fob, bring it or have it ready when I arrive.

2021 Ram Promaster Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was a Monday. Just past 5am. A guy working long-haul had his personal 2021 Ram ProMaster sitting dead at a truck stop off the highway outside Oxnard, and he had to be back on the road before afternoon.

The van wouldn't start. He'd been noticing the remote acting up for a few weeks - short range, occasional hesitation - but kept pushing it off. That morning, it stopped working altogether. The key fob battery had given out, and when he swapped in a new CR2032 from the truck stop convenience store, the van still didn't respond right. Something else had gone sideways.

He called the Ram dealer. Earliest appointment was Thursday. It was Monday. He found me instead.

I was pulling up by 6:30am. I ran diagnostics through the OBD port, confirmed the immobilizer wasn't reading the key correctly, and worked through the programming procedure on-site. Cut the new blade, enrolled the fob, tested every function against the van before I packed up.

He was back on the road before 7:30. The dealer would have had him waiting four days, paying for a tow, and spending a good chunk more than what he paid me.

He just needed someone who showed up.

Ram Promaster Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How long does a 2021 Ram ProMaster key replacement take?▼

Once I'm at your van, most ProMaster key jobs run between 30 and 45 minutes. That covers cutting the blade, programming the fob through the OBD port, and walking through a full function test - lock, unlock, and the other buttons - before I consider the job done. If it's an all-keys-lost situation, add a little time because the immobilizer needs to be cleared before new keys can be enrolled.
