There is a swap meet that runs on Sundays off Oxnard Boulevard, right in the heart of Downtown Oxnard. Vendors roll in early, set up by 7, and they are moving parts and merchandise before most people have had coffee. One of those vendors sells aftermarket auto parts out of a trailer. Knows his inventory cold. Can tell you alternator fitment for half the vehicles on the road without looking it up.
He had a 2020 Ram ProMaster. Three-button remote, the factory fob. One morning it just stopped being recognized. Van would not start. He figured dealer, because that is what the forums told him, and one of those forum posts was dated 2021 so he took it as gospel.

Cleaned the contacts, seated everything properly, plugged into the OBD port and ran the key registration through the vehicle's security system. Van started on the first try. Buttons all working. Lock, unlock, and the third button confirmed.
He stood there for a second and said he had blocked off a Tuesday for the dealer. I told him Tuesday was all his.
Dealer wanted a weekday appointment and had quoted him a number that made him pause. He paid a fraction of that, and the van never left the swap meet lot.
