There is a swap meet that runs on Sundays off Oxnard Boulevard, right in the heart of Downtown Oxnard. Vendors roll in early, set up by 7, and they are moving parts and merchandise before most people have had coffee.

One of those vendors sells aftermarket auto parts out of a trailer. Knows his inventory cold. Can tell you alternator fitment for half the vehicles on the road without looking it up.

He stood there for a second and said he had blocked off a Tuesday for the dealer. I told him Tuesday was all his.

Dealer wanted a weekday appointment and had quoted him a number that made him pause. He paid a fraction of that, and the van never left the swap meet lot.
