A tenant in a gated apartment complex up in the Camarillo Heights area called me around 9 PM. His 2007 Scion XB was parked inside the gates, the only key was snapped at the blade, and management was closed for the night. The broken key was an original HYQ12BAN remote head, TOY43 blade, 4D-67 chip inside. I pulled the immobilizer data through OBD using my VVDI2, read the 93C56 EEPROM off the 89780-12440 module, and registered a new transponder. Cut a fresh TOY43 blade on the machine in my van, paired the remote, and seated a new CR2032.
Then the part that actually matters: I tested every button on the remote, cycled the ignition three times, and made sure the immobilizer light on the dash dropped out the way it should. He sat in the driver's seat and just held the new key for a second, like he was making sure it was real.
No tow. No gate code drama. No waiting until morning for anyone to open an office. I walked in with a bag and walked out with the job done, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted him over the phone.
