Out past Village at the Park in Camarillo, a driver lost his only XB key somewhere on a mountain fire road trail. No spare, no second fob, nothing. His car sat in a dirt pullout with no way to open it and no tow truck that could reach it easily. He hiked back to a spot with cell service and texted me a GPS pin.
I drove out with everything for his 2008 Scion XB already loaded. First thing I did was decode the door lock and get the car open. Then I connected my ACDP to the OBD-II port and read the immobilizer data off the 93C56 EEPROM to back it up before touching anything. All-keys-lost on these means the 4D-67 chip registration has to be reset before the ECU will accept a new transponder.
Cut a fresh TOY43 blade on my mobile machine right there at the trailhead. Programmed the HYQ12BBY remote head key, registered the 4D-67 chip, and paired the 3-button remote functions. His XB turned over in that same dirt pullout where it had been sitting all morning.
He kept looking at the key like it was going to stop working. It did not. One visit, one trip, and he drove home. A dealer would have meant a tow from a fire road no flatbed wanted to touch, then days of waiting for parts and an appointment.
