2013 Scion XB Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A temp worker called me at 7:30 in the morning from a staffing office parking lot in Camarillo, near Conejo Mountain Open Space. She had an 8:30 placement she could not miss, and her 2013 Scion XB remote head key had cracked apart that morning. The blade was wobbling in the shell, loose enough that it would not hold position to turn the ignition cylinder.
I was at her lot in about 20 minutes.
First thing I did was decode the door lock with my TOY43 Lishi to verify the bitting. Matched it against the ignition. Then I built out a new HYQ12BBY remote head, cut the blade, and ran the 4D-67 transponder registration through OBD. The immobilizer accepted it on the first pass, no hiccups, which is typical on the DST40 platform when the procedure is clean.
Total hands-on time was around 20 minutes. She sat on a bench and watched most of it, then tested both the remote lock/unlock and the start herself. Buttons worked at full range across the lot.
She drove out of there before 8:15.
Her other option was a tow to the dealer, a wait measured in days, not hours, and a missed job placement she flat out could not afford to lose. She paid a fraction of what that route would have cost and kept her morning on track.
