2005 Toyota Echo Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy visiting family in The Lakes at Thousand Oaks in Thousand Oaks called me about his 2005 Echo. He wanted a spare key he could actually carry daily, not a backup sitting in a drawer at home. But his first question was blunt: is an aftermarket key going to be as good as what the dealer sells?
Fair question. Here is the honest version.
His key is a TOY43 blade with a 4C glass transponder chip inside the head. The remote is the HYQ12BAN, three buttons, CR2032 battery, completely separate from the ignition key. OEM versions of both carry the Toyota logo and a higher price tag. Aftermarket blanks use the same blade profile, same 4C chip type, same circuit board layout in the fob housing. When the blank is properly sourced, they are functionally identical.
I cut the TOY43 on my machine right there in his in-laws' driveway. Programmed the 4C transponder to the ECU, then paired the HYQ12BAN remote through the door lock receiver. Tested ignition start, all three remote buttons, lock range from across the street.
He flipped the key over looking for a Toyota logo. There was none. He shrugged.
Where aftermarket goes wrong is cheap sourcing. Thin shells that crack in weeks, generic chips that almost match. I test every batch before it goes in the van. Bad parts get returned. My name is on every job.
