2006 Toyota Solara Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near Wildwood Canyon in Thousand Oaks, a guy was sitting on the highway shoulder with his 2006 Solara and half a key blade in his hand. The other half was jammed inside the ignition cylinder.
He had already called another locksmith who quoted him for a full ignition replacement. Drilling out the cylinder, new lock assembly, the works. That felt wrong to him, so he kept calling around.
I pulled up and took a look. The blade had snapped clean at the bow, leaving the cut portion wedged deep in the TOY43 keyway. My TOY43AT Lishi slid in alongside the broken fragment and worked it out without disturbing the wafer stack inside. No drill, no damage, no marks on the housing.
Once the fragment was out, I decoded the wafer positions right there from the cylinder readings and cut a fresh blade to match. Then I programmed a new 4D-67 transponder chip through the OBD-II port. The Solara's immobilizer accepted it on the first attempt. His separate remote fob still worked fine since the remote and the transponder key are independent on this generation.
I closed his hood and his ignition looked like nothing ever happened. Same lock, same cylinder, new key that turns like the original did. He kept flipping the broken piece over in his fingers, kind of amazed that's all it took.
