I decoded her HU66 lock with the Lishi tool, cut a new blade, and connected through the OBD port to pull the immobilizer login from the cluster. On these PQ35 Beetles the security data is in the dash cluster itself, so once I had the PIN extraction done, programming the new Megamos 48 transponder and syncing the NBG010180T remote took about twenty minutes.
All four buttons tested good. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic. Transponder started the car clean, no warning lights on the cluster.
I told her to toss the washed fob in a bag of rice for a few days, but not to bet on it. Water and circuit boards aren't friends. She walked back into the building with a working key and never missed a thing.
