2018 Volkswagen Beetle
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2018 Volkswagen Beetle Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A driving school in Oxnard, out near Windsor North/River Ridge, called me about three 2018 VW Beetles they used as training cars. The instructors had been sharing keys between vehicles and the whole system had broken down.

Keys were getting left in the wrong lot, instructors were showing up to the wrong car, and one key had already gone missing for two weeks before it turned up in a jacket pocket.

The owner had called the dealer first. The dealer wanted each car brought in separately and quoted a price per key that made a three-car job expensive fast. Three separate trips meant three days with a training car sitting idle, and a driving school with one less car is a driving school with one less student slot.

I drove out to the lot one morning with my key machine and code software. All three Beetles, all three mechanical keys, cut on site back-to-back. No programming appointments, no tow trucks, no waiting rooms. I decoded one cylinder on a car where the key code wasn't on file, cut to match, tested in the ignition and both door locks. Did the same process on each car in order.

The whole set was done before the first student arrived. The owner labeled each key with the car's VIN sticker, hung them on a board in the office, and the instructor shuffle stopped that morning. He paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted, and none of his cars had to leave the lot.

Sometimes the job is just a well-cut key, made on the spot, with no drama attached.
