She was at one of the farm-to-table spots on Ojai Avenue when her purse was taken off the back of her chair. Keys, wallet, phone, all gone at once. She borrowed the server's phone, called the police, and her partner found my number while waiting for an officer to show up.
Her 2002 Volvo S40 was sitting in the lot with no keys and a stolen key out in the world somewhere. When her partner called the Volvo dealer, they said five to seven business days, the car would need a tow since it couldn't be driven without a key, and they wanted to wipe and reprogram the immobilizer as a precaution since the stolen key could still start the car. She drove home that night. The dealer route was going to cost significantly more, take the better part of a week, and require a tow she would have had to arrange herself. The stolen key will never start that S40 again.
