A guy on the coastal highway shoulder near Tomol Interpretive Play Area in Carpinteria waved me down before I even parked. His 2010 S40, silver, door wide open, emergency blade jammed halfway into the lock cylinder.

Cut a fresh NE66 blade on the van, then programmed the ID48 transponder chip through OBD using the CEM pincode. His KR55WK49250 fob paired back up on the first cycle. Five buttons, all responding.
After I lubricated the wafers and tested the new blade a dozen times, the cylinder felt brand new. He kept turning the key back and forth like he was waiting for it to stick again.
No drilling. No cylinder swap. No tow to a dealer for a week-long wait on a software subscription. Just lock decoding and a fresh key, done on site in Carpinteria for a fraction of what the other shop wanted.
