2007 Volvo S40 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A call came in from a guy stranded out in Oak View, just off the back side of Ojai. He had a 2007 Volvo S40 and one key. That key had been through everything with him, and at some point the blade had started feeling loose where it meets the fob housing. He didn't think much of it. Then it snapped.

The blade was still in the ignition when I got there. He had tried to wiggle it out himself with a screwdriver and made it worse. First thing I did was extract the blade properly so the cylinder wasn't damaged. Once that was clear, I had a look at what he was dealing with: no working key at all, a fob with a dead battery on top of everything else, and a car that hadn't moved in three hours.

I cut a new key blade to the vehicle and programmed the transponder to his S40's immobilizer on site. Dropped a fresh CR2450 in the fob housing, verified all five buttons were responding, and ran the remote functions at the car to confirm everything was talking. Engine turned over on the first try.

He mentioned the dealer had told him over the phone it would take a few days because they'd need to order the key. That's the part he remembered most. A few days, out in Oak View, with no car.
