2012 Chevrolet Colorado
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2012 Chevrolet Colorado Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy in the Bancroft area of Spring Valley on a weekday morning. He had a 2012 Colorado sitting in his driveway and a single worn key that had finally given up.

The plastic head was cracked down the middle, the blade was visibly thinning at the shoulder, and he wasn't sure if the problem was the key or something deeper. He'd already called the dealer. They told him to bring it in and plan on a couple of days.

He didn't want a couple of days. He had work.

I pulled up to his place with the key blank already in mind. The 2012 Colorado takes a specific transponder key, and I carry the blanks for it. I decoded the lock, cut the replacement blade to match his vehicle, and then ran the programming sequence through the diagnostic port so the immobilizer would recognize the new chip. The whole job happened in his driveway while he stood there drinking coffee.

When I tested it, the key turned clean, the engine started, and it stayed running. No security light sitting on, no crank-and-stall. He said something like "that's it?" Yeah, that's it.

He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and he didn't lose a single workday waiting for a service appointment. That's the whole point of mobile.
