2016 Chevrolet Colorado Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy stuck in a parking garage near the CSUSM Area in San Marcos. He had back-to-back meetings all afternoon and his 2016 Chevrolet Colorado key had stopped turning in the ignition. Not a dead battery, not a programming issue -- worn wafers in the cylinder. The blade would go in and just sit there.
He couldn't leave the truck in the garage overnight. He couldn't arrange a tow mid-workday. And he didn't have a second key, so the onboard relearn wasn't going to help him even if the cylinder cooperated.
I drove to the garage during his lunch break. I decoded the lock to confirm the mechanical issue and get the cut data, then cut a replacement key blade on site to match what the cylinder actually needed, not just what the original key showed. Programmed it through the OBD port. While I was there, I cut and programmed a second key so he'd have a spare in the glovebox instead of being in this same spot six months from now.
He walked back after his next meeting. Two working keys. Truck stayed in the same spot the whole time.
He mentioned the dealer when we wrapped up -- said they'd quoted him a tow plus an appointment two days out. For a key. I didn't need to say much. The truck was already running.
