2019 Chevrolet Colorado Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was a Saturday evening in Seven Oaks, and the call came in around 8:30. A guy had been working late, came down to the parking area near the community, and his 2019 Colorado wouldn't start. The key turned, the dash lit up, and then nothing. Engine cranked but stalled right out. He'd already tried it four or five times by the time he called me.
That crank-and-stall pattern on a transponder vehicle points one direction: the immobilizer isn't seeing a recognized key signal. Could be a failing transponder chip in the key, could be a read issue at the ignition barrel. I told him I'd be there in about 20 minutes and to leave it alone in the meantime.
When I got there I brought a replacement key blank already cut to the vehicle's profile and my programmer. I pulled the old key, checked the chip -- it was reading intermittently, which explained everything. The chip wasn't fully dead, just unreliable enough to fail under real conditions. I cut the new key, programmed the transponder to the vehicle's immobilizer, and tested it through four cold start cycles on site before I called it done.
He mentioned he'd been quoted a multi-day wait at the dealer just to get seen. That part didn't surprise me. He drove home that night.
