A customer at her home in Oceanside had a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe with a cracked flip key. The shell had split at the hinge and the blade was wobbling loose. I met her at her garage near Rancho Del Oro and brought replacement flip key shells and my B106 Lishi to verify the blade cut was still accurate before swapping shells. Her fob, FCC ID LHJ011, had the same cracking pattern I see on dozens of Chevy flip keys. The plastic fatigues at the hinge after a few years of pocket carry. I moved her working circuit board and chip into a fresh shell, cut a new blade to match, and tested everything.
She paid about $103. The dealer wanted $217 for a full replacement when all she needed was a shell swap. The electronics inside were fine.
