1999 Honda CR-V
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for a 1999 CR-V?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and VIN. I confirm the right key blank for your vehicle and tell you the price before I head out. When I arrive, I either cut from the key code on file or decode your existing key directly. New key gets tested in the door lock and the ignition before I hand it over. No waiting room, no tow truck, no second visit.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Three things: the vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership, usually your registration or title. I pull the VIN from the dashboard or door jamb to confirm the key specs. That is it. Some dealers have made this more complicated than it needs to be, asking for extra documentation or refusing to work from a customer-supplied blank. I keep it simple. You show me you own the car, I cut you a key.

Q: My 1999 CR-V key turns hard and sometimes does not come out of the ignition cleanly. Do I need a new key or is something wrong with the ignition?

Both are worth checking. On a car this age, it is common for the key to have worn down gradually over years of use. A worn key can feel sloppy in some locks and sticky in others. If the original key is the only one you have and it is old, the cuts may be rounded enough that it is not engaging the ignition wafers cleanly anymore. First thing I do is measure the existing key against spec.

Q: Can a locksmith cut a key for my 1999 CR-V if I have no key at all?

Yes. All-keys-lost on a mechanical key vehicle like this is a standard job. I can decode the door lock or the ignition cylinder directly to get the cut specification, then cut a key to match. No original key needed. Proof of ownership is required, I verify the VIN, and we go from there.

1999 Honda CR-V Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A single dad in Solana Beach, right near Fletcher Cove, had just picked up a used 1999 Honda CR-V from a buy-here-pay-here lot. Decent car, fair price. One key. The lot told him to sort out a spare himself.

He called a Honda dealer first. The number they gave him stopped him cold. For a basic metal key on a 25-year-old car. He found me online and asked if that was normal. I told him dealers price keys the way they price everything else in their service department. It is not personal, it is just how they operate.

I met him at the lot before he even drove the car home. Had the key blank, had the cutting machine in the van. I decoded the existing key, cut a new one, tested it in the door and the ignition, and handed it back to him in a few minutes. He stood there a little surprised by how fast it went.

He drove home with two working keys. The dealer would have taken days and cost him a lot more. That second key also means if he ever loses one down the road, the next job is simpler. He is set.

Honda CR-V Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 1999 Honda CR-V somewhere for a key replacement?▼

No. I come to wherever the vehicle is. Driveway in Solana Beach, a parking lot near Fletcher Cove, your workplace. You do not move the car at all. Honda dealers typically want you to drive in with a working key or have the vehicle towed to their bay if you are all-keys-lost. For a simple metal key on a 1999 CR-V, towing to a dealer is a waste of time and money. Everything I need fits in the van.
