2020 Honda CR-V Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a parking structure on the Otay Mesa side, over near Ocean View Hills. An ER doctor had just come off a 14-hour shift and his only fob for his 2020 CR-V had gone dark somewhere during it. He was on the fourth floor, completely done, and the car wasn't going anywhere.
He'd already called the dealer. Two days out, minimum. They told him he'd have to get the car there first, which wasn't happening with no working key.
I drove in and parked next to him. He was sitting on a concrete barrier with his bag between his feet, staring at his phone. He didn't say much. He didn't need to.
I pulled the fob apart first. CR2032 looked okay but I swapped it anyway as a matter of habit. Still nothing. So I connected to the diagnostic port, ran the pairing procedure with the tool online, and built him a replacement fob on site. Cut the emergency insert key to match his locks while the software was working through its timed sequence. Tested every button. Tested the door handle touch unlock on both front doors. Started the car twice.
The whole job was done before he finished the coffee he'd grabbed from his bag.
He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and that dealer quote didn't account for the fact that the car couldn't even get there. I packed up, he drove home, and I was back on the 905 inside the hour.
