He needed his medication from the pharmacy and his car wouldn't start. His 2001 Honda CR-V key fob had stopped working in the pharmacy lot in Fallbrook. He pressed the button and nothing happened. The old fob's CR2032 battery was dead and the transponder had lost sync after a jump start earlier that week. I replaced the fob battery, reprogrammed the transponder through OBD, and tested every function. I also walked him through the backup start procedure on his CR-V in case a fob ever died on him again.
From his phone call to his engine running was 40 minutes, and it cost $95. The dealer wanted $200 and a next-day appointment. He made it to the pharmacy, got his prescription, and went home. Sometimes the difference between a locksmith and a dealer isn't convenience. It's getting the car running before it becomes a health problem.
