1995 Toyota 4runner
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you're not one of those bait-and-switch locksmiths?

That pattern is easy to spot: a suspiciously low phone quote, vague answers when you ask about your specific vehicle, no verifiable business name, and a price that doubles once they're standing at your door. A legitimate locksmith can tell you exactly what a 1995 4Runner key job involves before they arrive, give you a real estimate over the phone, and back it up with reviews and a traceable business.

Q: Will a replacement key work exactly like my original?

On a 1995 4Runner, yes, and it's about as reliable as replacement keys get. This is a cut-to-vehicle metal key. If the cut is right, it works. There's no pairing, no registration, no handshake between the key and the truck. I test every key in the door lock, the ignition, and the tailgate lock before I leave. You walk away with a key that works and a backup if you want one cut at the same time.

Q: My 1995 4Runner key turns hard in the ignition. Do I need a new ignition or just a new key?

Usually it's the key first, the ignition second. After 30 years, a worn key can start fighting a worn ignition cylinder because both have rounded off together. Try a key that's cut from fresh code or decoded off the lock. If a new cut still drags, the ignition wafers are probably worn or one has broken and is catching. That's a cylinder service, not a full ignition replacement in most cases. Worth diagnosing before spending on parts.

Q: I lost my only key and the doors are locked. Can you still make a replacement without a spare?

Yes. All-keys-lost on a 1995 4Runner is a standard call. I decode the lock right at the vehicle and cut a key to match. No original needed.

1995 Toyota 4runner Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Eucalyptus Hills, the roads get narrow and the driveways get steep. I pulled up to a house off one of those long winding roads where your GPS second-guesses itself twice before you arrive.

The owner had snapped a key off in his 1995 4Runner's door lock. Not the ignition, just the door. He had one other key but it was worn down so badly it was catching on the tumblers, not turning cleanly. He'd been jiggling it for months. One wrong angle and he figured that one was going in the lock too.

I extracted the broken key from the door cylinder, decoded the lock face, and cut two fresh keys on site. Tested both in the door, both in the ignition, both in the tailgate. Clean turns all the way around.

He mentioned he'd called a shop first and they told him to tow it in. For a mechanical key on a 30-year-old truck, sitting in a driveway that runs fine. He saved a tow bill and a wait and got it handled in his own driveway in about 20 minutes.

Toyota 4runner Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Toyota vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services and carries full insurance. For a 1995 4Runner with a mechanical key, the job is cutting and decoding, no programming credentials needed. But you still want someone licensed and insured, because a badly cut key or a botched extraction can damage a lock cylinder that's already 30 years old and not easy to replace.
