2006 Toyota 4runner
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2006 Toyota 4runner Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Over in Santaluz, a woman had been putting off dealing with her 2006 4Runner for about two months. She had one key left, it was worn down, and she knew she was one bad day away from being completely stuck. She had already called one other locksmith who quoted her over the phone and then never showed up.

She found me, looked up the license, checked the reviews, and called. By the time I pulled up she had done her homework. She knew what a California locksmith license number looks like, she knew what Google Guaranteed meant, and she told me flat out that she was not letting anyone touch her truck who could not prove they were legitimate. That is exactly the right instinct.

The job itself was the straightforward part. I decoded her worn key, cut a new one to match, and programmed the transponder to her vehicle's immobilizer on site. On a 2006 4Runner this is a known process, the system is well-documented, and with the right equipment it does not take long. I also checked that her worn original still functioned reliably after the new spare was confirmed good. It did. She left with two working keys and a receipt with a real license number on it.

She mentioned what the dealer had quoted her when she called them a few weeks prior. It was a lot more than what she paid me, and they wanted the vehicle brought in during business hours. I was in her driveway on a Saturday afternoon.
