2019 Toyota 4runner
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2019 Toyota 4runner Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He was pulled over on the shoulder of the highway near Lakeside Proper in Lakeside when I got the call. Not broken down, just stuck. His 2019 Toyota 4Runner key had snapped in the ignition, blade half in the cylinder, half still in his hand. He had already called another locksmith who told him over the phone it would need a full ignition replacement, probably drilling involved.

I told him to sit tight.

When I got there, I could see the fragment was seated just past the tip of the keyway. The cylinder itself was undamaged, wafers intact, nothing forced. I used a Lishi extractor that fits the Toyota keyway and worked the fragment out clean, no contact with the wafers, no scoring on the cylinder walls. Once it was out, I decoded the lock from the wafer positions right there on the hood.

Cut a fresh blade to the decoded bitting, programmed the transponder through the OBD port, verified the remote functions on his original fob were still good since that part never took the hit. Turned the key. Started first try.

His lock works exactly the same as the day he bought it. No drill marks, no new cylinder, no tow to a dealer. The other locksmith's plan would have been a completely unnecessary repair. Non-destructive extraction is always where I start, and most of the time it finishes there too.
