Out near Cathedral Oaks in Goleta, an NSX owner tracked me down for what he described as "just a spare key." He had one original left, worn smooth enough that the code stamped on the blade was barely readable, and he wanted a backup before that last copy gave out completely.

These keys cut on both sides, and after 30 years of daily use, the ignition cylinder on his car had developed its own personality. A trace copy would inherit every bit of wear from the original blade and add a little slop on top of that. I squinted at the blade, got three of the four code digits clearly, and confirmed the fourth through the VIN. Code cut, both sides, factory depth. Checked both profiles before it went anywhere near his locks.
New key turned the doors, the glovebox, the trunk, and the ignition without hesitation. He held both keys side by side for a second, comparing them.
Then he mentioned his dealer wanted the car dropped off and said to plan on two days.
He drove home with both keys. I was packed up and done in under 20 minutes.
