1997 Acura NSX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

1997 Acura NSX Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Storke Ranch, a guy called about his 1997 NSX. Older, used a cane, and told me upfront he did not drive often anymore but relied on the car to get to medical appointments.

His only key had a blade that had been getting progressively harder to turn, and now the immobilizer was flaking out on him. The green indicator on the dash was blinking when it should have been going solid and then off, which told me the transponder was not being read reliably. Getting to a dealer was not simple for him, and his daughter who usually helped with that kind of errand was out of town.

I drove out that morning. The NSX uses a specific blade profile on an eight-cut keyway, so I decoded the lock to pull the bitting and verified the cuts. His ignition tumblers were worn from close to three decades of the same key, which explained why the blade had gotten stiff. Cut a fresh key from the correct blank, registered the transponder through the diagnostic port, and watched the dash. Green light on for a couple seconds, then off. Clean.

He stood about four feet away the whole time, leaning on his cane. Did not say much until the engine turned over on the first try. Then he just nodded, like something he had been carrying around all week finally put itself down.

No waiting room. No appointment queue. No scheduling around someone else's calendar.
