Got a call from the East Ventura neighborhood in Ventura. A 2002 NSX owner said the car would crank but the immobilizer light was acting strange, blinking green and not settling down. She had no confidence it would restart if she shut it off, so it had been sitting.
First thing I asked for was every key she owned. On these Honda Type 2 immobilizer cars, the add-and-rewrite process through the DLC can clear and restack all stored key IDs. I do not like working with one key in my hand if there are two more sitting in a junk drawer at home. She actually had the black master key, the gray valet key, and the original key number plate tucked in the owner's manual.
I verified the blade cut against the lock, then checked transponder response on each key with my reader. Both keys had readable chips, but the immobilizer ECU was not handshaking properly with the master. The problem was key recognition on the immobilizer side, not a bad cylinder or ignition switch.
I cut a fresh HD106-PT blank, programmed the transponder through the immobilizer menu, and ran start cycles back to back until the green key light did its normal two-second check and went dark every time.
She stood there for the last test, arms folded, waiting for the light to blink again. It did not.
The whole thing got handled on site that morning for a fraction of what the dealer route would have cost, and without dropping the car off for a week.
