Got a text from a guy near Pacific View Mall in Ventura. His 2001 Buick Century was sitting in the lot, and both of his remotes had quit on him the same week. He figured the car was broken. Turned out he could still start it with the key blade, but the doors would not respond to either fob. He had been walking up and manually unlocking the driver door every time, which gets old fast in a parking lot with your arms full.
I drove out and checked the remotes first. Both L2C0007T units, part number 10335582, three buttons each. One had a corroded CR2032 that had leaked just enough to leave a green film on the board contacts. The other remote's case was cracked near the battery door, and moisture had gotten in.
Cleaned the first one, replaced the cell, reprogrammed it to the body control module using the GM relearn procedure through the driver door lock cylinder. The second one was too far gone, so I built him a fresh remote on the spot, programmed it right there, and verified both units on every function: lock, unlock, trunk release.
He stood there clicking lock and unlock back and forth like he was testing whether I was going to disappear. The car answered every time.
Whole thing took maybe twenty minutes. A dealer would have ordered the part and told him to come back next week.
