Out in Pierpont, I got a call from a guy at a medical office parking lot on crutches, a couple days post-surgery. His wife was at work. His 2005 Buick Century wasn't going anywhere without a working remote, and the thought of waiting for a dealer appointment was not realistic for him.

I pulled the CR2032, checked the contacts inside the case, and the battery had been sitting in there long enough that the positive face had some surface corrosion. Cleaned it up, fresh CR2032, and nothing. Fob was done.
I had a replacement remote with the correct factory FCC ID in my bag. Connected to the OBD port, cycled through the body control module programming, and registered the new fob. Walked him through all three buttons in the lot before I left. He stayed in the shade the whole time.
