2014 Buick Encore
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know I'm getting the right replacement fob for my 2014 Buick Encore?

Check the factory FCC ID printed on the back of your existing fob. That number is how we cross-reference the correct replacement unit for your specific vehicle. A fob with a different FCC ID may physically resemble yours but won't program correctly, or the buttons won't map to the right functions. Before I touch anything, I verify that number against the vehicle to make sure what I'm programming is an exact match.

Q: Are you licensed and insured to work on my car's key system?

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, bonded, and fully insured. We're also BBB A+ rated and part of the Google Guaranteed program, which you can verify directly through Google. All of that is checkable online before you ever call.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2014 Encore. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2014 Encore flip key requires a professional scan tool connected to the OBD port to register a new fob to the vehicle's security system. There is no ignition-turn sequence or button trick that works on this vehicle. That style of onboard self-programming doesn't apply here. So if you've already bought the fob, you're not out of luck. You just still need someone with the right equipment to complete the job.

Q: What happens if the fob completely fails and I can't get into the car?

The flip key on the 2014 Encore has a mechanical blade that folds out from the fob body. That blade operates the door lock cylinder directly, no battery required. So even if the remote functions are completely dead, you can still get in and start the car the old way. A lot of owners don't realize the physical key is there until they need it.

2014 Buick Encore Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Wildwood had been to a shop in Thousand Oaks before he called me. That shop tried to program a replacement fob to his 2014 Encore, the car battery gave out partway through the process, and afterward the vehicle wouldn't accept any key registration at all. The shop's answer was a full body control module swap, plus two new keys, plus labor. The quote was steep.

When he described the symptoms, I already had a pretty clear picture. A battery dropout mid-programming can leave corrupted key data inside the module. The module itself is physically fine. The data it's holding is the problem. Those are two very different things, and confusing them is expensive.

I drove out to Wildwood with my bench programming tool. Without pulling the module from the car, I was able to read the EEPROM directly, find the bad entry from the failed programming attempt, and clean it. Then I wrote the corrected image back, registered a fresh fob, and tested every function: lock, unlock, the flip blade for the ignition, all five buttons, remote range front and rear.

The Encore started without complaint. First attempt after the repair.

I walked the shop tech through what had happened before I left. Not to show off. Just because the next time they see this on a GM vehicle, I'd rather they call me than quote someone a module replacement that isn't necessary. Two hours total. The dealer alternative was going to take days and cost a lot more than what he paid me.

Corrupted data is fixable. That distinction matters.

Buick Encore Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What battery does the 2014 Buick Encore key fob use?▼

CR2032. It's a common size you can find at a drugstore or hardware store, but how you open the fob matters. The 2014 Encore flip key has a small screw near the key pivot holding the two halves together. Strip that screw or crack the shell prying from the wrong spot, and you've turned a quick battery swap into a fob replacement.
