2024 Buick Encore
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: I found a fob online that matches the factory FCC ID on the box. Can I just buy that and program it myself?

No. The 2024 Encore smart key system does not have a self-programming sequence you can do from the driver's seat. There's no button trick, no ignition cycle, no sequence that enrolls a new fob without diagnostic equipment. That method only exists on older GM vehicles with a basic transponder key in an ignition cylinder. This system is not that. The fob blank you buy online is just hardware.

Q: How fast can you get to Westlake Village in Thousand Oaks?

Usually 15 to 25 minutes. Call in, we route the closest available tech straight to you. No appointment window, no scheduling days out.

Q: The car starts fine but the passive door handle unlock stopped working on one side. Is the fob going bad?

Probably not the fob. If the car still starts and the other door handle is responsive, the key system is most likely doing its job. Passive handle unlock on these is handled door by door, and when it drops out on just one side, the usual suspects are the capacitive sensor in that handle or the wiring at that door. It's a localized issue, not a fob issue.

Q: I have one working key left. Can you add a second fob before I'm completely stuck?

Yes, and this is the smarter call to make. Adding a spare while you still have a working key is faster than an all-keys-lost job, and it costs less. The process is simpler when the car can already verify an existing authorized fob. Owners in Westlake Village and across Thousand Oaks wait until they're locked out with zero keys and then pay more for the full reset and longer wait.

2024 Buick Encore Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A documentary filmmaker in Thousand Oaks called me from a dead-end street near one of the canyon trailheads in Westlake Village. His 2024 Buick Encore was parked where the asphalt just stops, right where the road turns into a dirt path. No room for a flatbed. No way to hook up a tow without dragging the car back manually first.

He had already called the nearest dealer. They told him to figure out the tow himself and then bring it in. He didn't have a key to get it into neutral, and no one was going to push it out anyway.

I parked at the mouth of the street and walked down with my bag. The car was sitting there completely locked up, no fob, nothing. I connected through the OBD port, ran the all-keys-lost sequence with my diagnostic equipment, and registered a new smart fob from scratch. Took maybe forty minutes start to finish, including the security access timer that's built into the process on these.

The new fob worked first press. He walked around the car testing every button, checked the door handles, fired it up, and drove it out himself. The car never touched a tow hook.

He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a number and said to also budget for the tow. He paid way less with me, and the tow never happened.

Buick Encore Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What battery does the 2024 Buick Encore key fob use?▼

CR2032. It's a flat coin cell you can find at any pharmacy or hardware store. The swap itself takes about two minutes: find the small release slot on the fob, slide out the mechanical key blade, and use it or a coin to pop the back cover. The old cell lifts right out. Every replacement fob we build leaves with a fresh CR2032 already installed.
