2009 Buick Lucerne Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in West Simi Valley called me on a weekday morning. He'd been back from a long overseas work trip maybe twelve hours, and he was already dealing with a car that wouldn't start in his own driveway.
He turned the key, engine cranked, fired up for a second, then died. Did it again. Same thing. He figured it was a battery issue, jumped it from his wife's car, same result. By the time he called me he'd already been at it for forty minutes.
When I got there I turned the key myself and watched the security light. It stayed lit. That told me what I needed to know - the immobilizer wasn't seeing the chip in his key correctly. I pulled out my scan tool and checked the key status against the vehicle. His original key was still enrolled. The issue was the key itself: it had been through a lot of travel, the key ring had put stress on the head, and I could see the plastic housing had a small crack near the base. Chip contact inside was compromised.
Cut a new key blade to his vehicle, programmed the replacement transponder, cleared the fault, and let him start it himself so he could see it work. He did it three times in a row just to be sure.
He didn't mention the dealer until I was packing up, and only to say he'd almost called them out of habit. He was glad he didn't.
