2010 Buick Lucerne
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: I found a replacement key listed online for my 2010 Lucerne. Can I just buy it and use it?

You can buy the blank, but it will not start the car until the transponder chip inside it gets programmed to your specific vehicle. An unprogrammed key will turn the ignition and then the engine will shut right back down, or it won't crank at all, because the immobilizer doesn't recognize the chip. Cutting and programming both have to happen. If you already have one working key, there may be an onboard relearn sequence available.

Q: How fast can you get to Upper State Street in Santa Barbara?

Usually 15 to 25 minutes from the time you call. I dispatch directly to your location, no appointment window, no scheduling days out. Call now and I'm moving.

Q: I have one working key for my 2010 Lucerne. Can I get a spare made without going to the dealer?

Yes, and this is the easier version of the job. When you still have a working key, the Lucerne of this era allows a relearn sequence that doesn't require the full security access procedure. I can cut a new key to match, then walk through the onboard steps to register it alongside your existing key. The whole thing is faster than all-keys-lost because we're not waiting out that security timer.

Q: My 2010 Lucerne starts fine but throws a security warning on the dash sometimes. Is the key failing?

Could be the key, could be the ignition cylinder, could be a communication issue between the two. On transponder systems from this era, intermittent security warnings that come and go usually point to a worn key that's starting to lose reliable chip contact in the cylinder, or a cylinder that's getting loose and not reading consistently. If it starts every time but the warning still flickers, the key is probably still being read, just inconsistently.

2010 Buick Lucerne Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was working Upper State Street in Santa Barbara on a Tuesday afternoon when the call came in. Parking lot near one of the shops up there, 2010 Buick Lucerne, owner had no working key at all. Not a dead fob, not a weak signal, just completely locked out with nothing in hand.

She had already called the dealer. They needed the car towed in, couldn't give her a time window shorter than two days, and couldn't tell her what it would cost until they had it on their lift. She was standing in a parking lot in the sun trying to work through that math.

I pulled up with the key blank already in the van. The Lucerne uses a transponder key, chip inside the head, cuts on the blade. I decoded the lock mechanically to get the cut right, then connected to the OBD port to run the security access sequence. All-keys-lost on this platform has a timed procedure built into it, so you wait it out, you don't rush it. Once the module accepted the new key, I cut the blade to match and tested it: turn, start, run.

She drove off maybe 45 minutes after I arrived. The dealer still hadn't called her back.

Buick Lucerne Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Does the 2010 Buick Lucerne key fob use a battery I should replace regularly?▼

The 2010 Lucerne is a transponder turn-key, not a fob or smart key setup. There is no remote, no battery to swap, and no fob at all. The key is metal with a chip embedded in the plastic head. If it stops working, the issue is either a damaged chip, a worn-out key that needs to be recut, or a programming problem between the key and the vehicle security system. None of those are battery situations.
