Got a call from a woman parked at the Calle Real corridor in Goleta. Her 2005 Tucson's remote had quit on her, and she assumed the whole key was dead. She'd been manually locking and unlocking with the blade for two weeks, and the car started every time, but she figured it was only a matter of days before that stopped too.
I pulled up next to her in the lot and started with the remote. Cracked open the OSLOKA-320T, and the CR2032 inside was corroded on one terminal. Not just dead, but leaking slightly. That gunk on the battery contact will kill signal even with a fresh cell dropped in.
Cleaned the contacts on the board, seated a new CR2032, and tested. Lock, unlock, panic. Walked about 30 feet out and hit lock again. Solid click from all doors. She stood by the hood watching me walk away from her car pressing buttons and thought I was being weird. I told her if it doesn't work from across the lot, it's going to fail at the worst time.
Then I checked the transponder side. Key in, engine cranks and starts, immobilizer light on the cluster goes out within a second. That's the ID46 chip handshaking with the ECU through the antenna ring. All good.
She thought she was looking at a full key replacement. Turned out to be a battery and a cleaning, done at her car, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted her over the phone.
