The call from Refugio State Beach came at sunset. A 2024 Tucson owner had the dreaded all-keys-lost scenario after a beach day gone wrong. No working fob, no way to start, and camping gear locked inside.
I pulled up with the full mobile setup. The 2024 Tucson uses that newer Bosch system where the PIN extraction goes through the gateway module first. Connected my IM608 Pro to the OBD port under the dash. The system wanted a 16-digit security code from Hyundai's server, which takes about 15 minutes if their portal cooperates.
While waiting for the code, I prepped the new TQ8-FOB-4F37. The emergency blade needed cutting since these don't come with one. Got the security code, cleared the old key data, and started the registration sequence. The Tucson makes you hold the fob against the start button during initial pairing. Takes about 30 seconds of solid contact.
First try, nothing. The system threw error B1685-00. Classic antenna amplifier issue from TSB 22-BE-005H. Bypassed it temporarily through the diagnostic menu and the new fob registered clean.
The owner watched his Tucson come back to life right there in the beach parking lot. Dealer route would have meant a flatbed tow to Santa Barbara, then waiting days for their one key guy to show up.
