Got a call from a guy near the Ojai Post Office Tower area. He had a 2016 Tucson Limited that cranked but killed fuel after two seconds, every time. Classic immobilizer rejection. Hyundai's HITAG3 system on the third-gen Tucson (TL platform) requires a full registration cycle through OBD with a timed learn sequence. If you rush it or drop connection before the ECU commits the key data to permanent memory, the transponder writes temporarily and then falls out. The car cranks because the mechanical side works, but the immobilizer never actually accepted the key.
I used my Lishi HY18R to verify the emergency blade cut matched his door lock, then connected through the diagnostic port. Cleared the failed key data from the smartra module, ran a clean registration on the TQ8-FOB-4F07, and waited through the full confirmation cycle. Showed him the programming screen so he could see "Key 1 Registered" with his own eyes.
He had already paid the first locksmith. I couldn't fix that part. But the Tucson started on the first press and I tested all four buttons before I left.
