2021 Hyundai Tucson
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2021 Hyundai Tucson Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out at Rincon Point in Carpinteria, I got a call from a woman who had been down to one key on her 2021 Tucson for about a year. She kept meaning to get a spare cut and never did.

Then one morning the fob casing cracked along the seam -- probably from being dropped one too many times on a hard surface -- and when she tried to use the emergency insert blade to get in manually, it snapped off inside the door lock cylinder.

She was standing outside the car holding a cracked fob shell with no working blade and no backup. Zero keys.

I pulled the blade fragment out of the cylinder first, then decoded the lock to confirm the cut. The transponder chip inside the broken fob was still intact, which was the good news. Because I could read the existing key data off that chip, I didn't have to run a full all-keys-lost reset -- I could work from what was already there. I transferred the chip into a new fob shell, verified it was reading correctly, and cut two replacement blades.

Both keys started the car. Both fobs locked and unlocked. I walked every button on both before I called it done.

She went from a fist full of broken pieces to two fully working smart keys in roughly 40 minutes, parked on the street with the ocean behind us. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a price that made her pause before calling me. I came in well under that, on site, without a tow or an appointment.

The broken fob saved her money. That chip inside is almost always worth checking before anyone assumes the worst.
