Got a call from a guy out near Coal Oil Point Reserve in Goleta. He had a 2007 Tucson and a story I hear too often.
He had found one of those cheap locksmith ads online. The tech showed up, charged him way more than the ad said, and half-programmed his OSLOKA-320T remote. Lock and unlock worked. Panic did nothing. And the transponder side was never touched, so the immobilizer light was flickering on startup and the engine would occasionally crank but refuse to catch. He had been limping along like that for weeks, sometimes needing three or four tries to get the car running.
He found me through Google Guaranteed and his first question was how to tell a real locksmith from the bait-and-switch guys. I gave him my BSIS license number, LCO 6792, right on the phone. He looked it up on the DCA site while we were still talking. I told him I would fix what the other guy left broken and he would pay the quote, nothing extra.
I got to his spot, hooked up my Smart Pro to the OBD-II port, pulled the PIN from the immobilizer module, and ran the ID46 transponder registration. Then I reprogrammed all three remote buttons through the standard OBD remote pairing sequence. Lock, unlock, panic, all clean. Engine fired on the first turn with no immobilizer flicker.
He watched the whole thing from about two feet away. When the engine caught clean, he just nodded like he had been holding his breath for a month. The entire job, transponder and remote, took less than 40 minutes on site. A fraction of what the dealer quoted him for the same work, and no tow required.
