Got a call from a guy in the Juanamaria neighborhood in Ventura. His 2000 Discovery was sitting in the driveway, both original remote head keys gone. One lost at the beach months ago, the second one his kid dropped somewhere between school and home. He'd been putting off dealing with it.
He had already called the Land Rover dealer. They told him to tow it in, order a new key, and wait. He asked how long. They said a week, maybe more, because the CWE100710 key had to come from parts distribution. That's when he started looking elsewhere.
I showed up with the blank and my equipment. Cut the blade on site using the door lock code data. Then I connected to the OBD-II port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure through the 10AS immobilizer system, reset the Body Control Unit to accept fresh transponder codes, and wiped the old lost keys out of memory so they can't start anything.
The part people don't think about: I also had to pair the two-button remote to the RF receiver. Separate system from the immobilizer on these. Lock, unlock, tested from 30 feet, then from behind the house. Both solid.
He stood there holding the new key like he didn't trust it yet. Turned the ignition, the engine caught, and the red immobilizer light on the dash went steady then off. That's when he believed it.
Whole thing took about 40 minutes. No tow truck. No week-long wait.
