2000 Land Rover Discovery
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2000 Land Rover Discovery Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Casitas Springs, a guy had his 2000 Discovery sitting in the driveway for about three weeks. He had one key, it went missing somewhere between a trail run and a garage cleanout, and nobody could find it.

He had already called the Land Rover dealer in the area. They wanted to schedule him out several days, asked about towing the vehicle to them, and gave him a number that made him pause long enough to start looking for other options. That is when he called me.

I drove out to Casitas Springs with the tools already loaded. The Discovery was right there in the driveway, which makes the job cleaner than a parking lot. I cut a new blade to the vehicle, assembled the remote head key, connected to the OBD port, and ran the all-keys-lost procedure. The system cleared the old key memory and accepted the new one. Then I tested the remote functions, walked the doors, and had him try it himself a couple times so he could see it working in his own hands.

He asked about getting a spare made on the spot. We did that too, both keys registered and both remotes confirmed working before I packed up.

The dealer route would have cost him time and a tow on top of the key price. We did it in his driveway, same morning he called, for a fraction of what they wanted.
