Got called to Ventura City Hall area for a 2024 Discovery that wouldn't see its only key. Owner kept getting "Smart Key Not Found" on the dash, even standing right next to the door handle.
First thing I checked: CR2032 voltage. It read 2.6V, which is technically alive but too weak for the PEPS system to wake up properly. These KOBJXF18A fobs need solid voltage or the LF antenna can't handshake with the car.
Fresh CR2032 went in. Still nothing. That's when I noticed the positive contact had oxidation, probably from sitting in beach air. Quick clean with contact cleaner, reassembled the fob, and the Discovery immediately recognized it. Door handles worked, push-start worked, all five buttons responded.
The owner mentioned the dealer quoted a three-week wait for diagnostic appointment, then parts ordering on top of that. "They said something about the KVM needing an update too." I tested the key at max range, checked all the PEPS functions, made sure the emergency blade turned smooth in the driver door cylinder.
Twenty minutes total, including the battery swap and contact cleaning. No tow, no rental car, no weeks of waiting. Just a working key again, handled right there in the Ventura City Hall parking area.
