Got a call from a guy in the Loma Vista neighborhood in Ventura. His 2001 Land Rover Discovery was sitting in the driveway, both keys gone. One snapped off in the ignition a year ago, the other just vanished.
He had already called the Land Rover dealer. They wanted the truck towed in, said it would be three to five business days because they had to order the blank through parts, then schedule service for the cut and program. He did not have another car.
I pulled up, grabbed the CWE100710 blank and my cutter out of the van, and went to work. Cut the key on site using the lock code, then connected to the OBD-II port to talk to the 10AS immobilizer through the BCU. Registered the new transponder, verified the chip ID took, and turned it over. Fired right up.
While I was testing the two-button remote, lock and unlock, he was just standing there holding the old broken key blade he had fished out of the ignition months ago. He held it up next to the new one and sort of laughed. Same key, totally different day.
The whole thing took about 35 minutes. No tow truck, no loaner car, no waiting on a parts department. Just a working key, right there in the driveway.
